Topps has revealed that legendary Brazilian striker Romário will be featured on his first-ever autographed Topps trading card, nearly three decades after his World Cup triumph and iconic club career.
The announcement was made on Topps’ official Instagram, confirming that Romário will be honoured in the Topps Lost Rookie Cards line, a collection that aims to spotlight players who missed out on official rookie cards during their playing days.
The new release will naturally include Romário’s autograph, bringing fans a long-overdue collectible from one of football’s all-time greats. The only confirmation we have regarding sets so far is that they will appear in Merlin Chrome sets.

What are Topps Lost Rookie Cards?
Topps Lost Rookie Cards series is a special insert collection that features football legends who never had an official rookie card of their own during their playing careers.
According to Topps, these cards are designed in the retro Topps style appropriate to the era the player debuted in, capturing what might have been if they had received a card at the time.
Each card is carefully curated to reflect the player’s early career or breakthrough season, with selected print runs and autograph variations. Players featured in the Lost Rookie Cards range are often retired stars with major historical or cultural impact on the game.
A quick look back at Romário’s career
Romário de Souza Faria, known simply as Romário, is regarded as one of Brazil’s most prolific strikers. His playing career spanned over two decades, with stints at major clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Valencia, and a host of Brazilian sides including Flamengo and Vasco da Gama.
He was the leading figure in Brazil’s 1994 FIFA World Cup victory, scoring five goals and winning the tournament’s Golden Ball as best player. Renowned for his positioning, flair, and finishing, Romário has scored over 1,000 goals in his illustrious career, a feat he passionately defended throughout his post-playing days, despite FIFA only officially recognising his tally at 929 goals.
In 2004, Romário was named one of FIFA’s 125 Greatest Living Players by Pelé.
Romário’s inclusion in the Topps Lost Rookie Cards line adds another all-time great to a growing checklist of football icons finally receiving the cardboard tribute they deserve.
