Topps has announced that its Debut Patch series of cards is expanding into the UFC, adding the world’s premier MMA organisation to a growing list of sports featuring this innovative memorabilia initiative.
Starting immediately, every UFC athlete making their first appearance inside a UFC Octagon will wear a specially designed Debut Patch on their fight gear. Once the bout concludes, that patch will be removed, authenticated, and embedded into a one-of-one Topps trading card, paired with the fighter’s autograph to create a unique collectible that marks their UFC debut.
Andreas “Bane” Gustafsson makes history with the first UFC debut patch
The first fighter to wear the new debut patch will be Andreas “Bane” Gustafsson, who is set to make his UFC debut this week. His patch will be the first of its kind used in a UFC bout and will form part of a one-of-one signed Topps card, a historic moment for both Gustafsson and the hobby.
Andreas “Bane” Gustafsson is a Swedish mixed martial artist known for his aggressive wrestling style and relentless pace inside the cage. A former standout on the international amateur circuit, Gustafsson transitioned to professional MMA with a reputation for explosive takedowns and powerful ground-and-pound. Prior to signing with the UFC, he competed in several European promotions.
This move continues Topps’ efforts to make athlete debuts more memorable and collectable, offering fans and collectors a direct, tangible link to a fighter’s very first UFC appearance.
Following in the footsteps of WWE and MLB
This announcement follows the same format seen in other sports. Most recently, WWE launched its own debut patch program, where Superstars now wear debut patches during their first appearance on Raw or SmackDown. Once worn, the patch is removed and used in a unique Topps trading card.
The original blueprint for the program stems from Major League Baseball, where debut patch cards have rapidly become some of the most valuable and celebrated cards in the modern hobby. A one-of-one Paul Skenes MLB debut patch card even sold for over $1 million, underlining the potential importance of these UFC editions down the line.

A knockout addition to UFC trading cards
This announcement represents a major leap for UFC trading cards, adding a deeper layer of personal significance and rarity. For fans and collectors, it’s a chance to own a piece of UFC history, not just in print, but in material form, backed by both on-card signatures and event-worn patches from an athlete’s first walk to the Octagon.
As debut patch cards begin to appear in upcoming Topps UFC products, collectors will want to keep a close eye on rising stars, knowing each first fight could result in one of the most coveted UFC cards of the year.
