We knew it was coming, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting! Topps has officially announced that legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be featured on his first-ever Topps autograph card, set to debut in the 2024/25 Topps UCC Chrome release on 15th May 2025.
The reveal was made official on Topps’ Instagram page, showcasing a signed card design that pays tribute to Ferguson’s remarkable managerial legacy. Known for guiding Manchester United to unprecedented success over nearly three decades, his addition to the Topps line-up marks a major moment for football collectors and United fans alike.
Autographs from an icon of the modern game
Sir Alex Ferguson’s signature joins a growing trend of Topps highlighting legendary football figures through special autographed inserts including Franz Beckenbauer, Roberto Carlos, Paul Gascoigne and Lionel Messi but to name a few.
This addition follows on the heels of recent announcements such as the debut of Romário’s first Topps signature in the Lost Rookie Cards line — a move that also created considerable buzz within the hobby. Ferguson’s card is expected to be a standout hit in the 2024/25 Topps UCC Chrome checklist, particularly given the rarity of official trading cards featuring the iconic Scotsman in a signature format.
Fergie – A career built on dominance
Sir Alex Ferguson managed Manchester United from 1986 until his retirement in 2013, leading the club to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, two UEFA Champions League trophies and a host of other honours. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest managers of all time, credited with building multiple title-winning squads and nurturing talents such as Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Wayne Rooney.
Although Ferguson has been featured in occasional past Topps sets, including tribute or insert cards, this marks the first time collectors will be able to pull an officially autographed card bearing his signature.
2024/25 Topps UCC Chrome release details
Topps UCC Chrome 2024/25 is set for release on 15th May 2025. As with previous Chrome products, collectors can expect a variety of parallel versions, insert sets and autograph tiers. Autograph cards from legends tend to be seeded at lower ratios, meaning Ferguson’s signature is going to be a very difficult capture, but one worth the rips!
