The Pokémon TCG community on Reddit was left stunned (and definitely inspired to buy more cards) by a post from user LolaInSlacks88 in /r/pokemonTCG, who shared a genuinely unbelievable story in his post titled Pokémon Saved my life.
According to the post, he was recently caught in a terrifying real-life incident involving an idiot neighbour and his gun, here’s his full post in all its glory:
While I was asleep one Sunday, a series of explosions woke me. I live in the country, so usually these are gunshots being fired by our next-door neighbour – who doesn’t use a berm or backstop. It sounded like something fell down in my closet, so I went to check and there was a hole in the wall that went into my Tupperware bins full of Pokemon. Turns out my idiot neighbours shot a bullet into my house, and an Incineroar theme deck stopped it. The actual 9mm bullet was still inside the box. If it hadn’t been there, it would have likely struck me while I was asleep as it was level with my bed.
A lovely man at our LCS bought me a new theme box and I’m okay, but I now count Incineroar as my guardian angel Pokemon and have never been happier to have piles of cardboard in my box. You never know, they might stop a bullet!
So there you have it, a sealed Pokémon Sun & Moon booster pack may well have absorbed enough impact to prevent serious injury, or worse, death!
“I didn’t even realise at first that I had been hit,” they wrote. “When I checked the bag, I found the bullet lodged inside — and the booster pack was completely mangled.”
While it’s not clear if the pack completely stopped the bullet, it clearly played a role in reducing its force, and for fans of the franchise, it instantly became one of the wildest Pokémon-related stories ever shared online.
A wave of support (and humour) from the Pokemon community
The post quickly shot to the top of r/PokemonTCG, with collectors rallying around the user with messages of support, and a good dose of humour:
“And they say Sun & Moon hit rates are poor,” joked Independent_Cry_38.
“I’m going to show my wife this as justification to buy more… Jk in all seriousness so glad you are okay! That’s insane,” added PokePackFacts.
Scuddie- chimed in with: “Now you gonna make a deck with Incineroar in its honour — it saved your life haha!”
And our personal favourite from nolemonnomelon: “Intimidated the bullet 🙏🙏”
Beyond the jokes, many users commented on how touching it was to see the Pokémon TCG, a source of comfort and nostalgia for so many, become an actual life-saving part of someone’s story.
Trading cards that matter more than money
While the hobby often focuses on rare pulls, grading, and big-money sales, this story is a striking reminder that why people collect is often far more important than what they collect.
It’s about memories, comfort, and in this rare and extraordinary case, possibly even protection.
As one commenter summed up: “That’s the most valuable Sun & Moon pack in the world now.”
