Caitlin Clark rookie card sells for $660,000 breaking women’s sports card record

A 2024 WNBA rookie card of Caitlin Clark has sold for $660,000 (£491,116), smashing the previous record for a women’s sports card by a wide margin.

The card, a 1/1 Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Platinum Logowoman, was sold through Fanatics Collect in an extended bidding auction that opened at $336,000 before rising sharply to its final price.

The standout card features Clark mid-dribble with visible shin blood, a patch from a game-worn Indiana Fever jersey, her signature in blue ink, and the handwritten note “769 pts and counting”, a nod to the record she broke last year for most points scored by a rookie.

From college sensation to auction blockbuster

Clark has rapidly become one of the biggest names in women’s basketball. After dominating the NCAA with back-to-back championships at Iowa and setting the all-time Division I scoring record across both men’s and women’s categories, the 23-year-old entered the WNBA with major fanfare.

She was selected first overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 draft and went on to win Rookie of the Year. Since joining the league, Clark has already set multiple WNBA records, including most assists in both a single game and a full season.

This latest card sale more than doubles the previous record for a women’s sports card, also held by Clark, which fetched $366,000 in March.

In total, 14 of her trading cards have now sold at public auction for amounts that far exceed her estimated WNBA season salary of around $80,000.

Clark is currently sidelined due to a groin injury sustained on the 15th July. The Fever have not yet provided a timeline for her return.
