Collector Club’s Hobby Hotlist: Card market trends (12th–16th June 2025)

by Collector ClubCollector Club

Welcome to the first edition of Collector Club’s Hobby Hotlist, a new series that dives into the ups and downs of the trading card market. We’ll break down sales trends using fresh data from Card Ladder, focusing on sports and entertainment cards that matter most to UK and European collectors. From rising stars to hobby cold spots, this series will help you stay in tune with what’s hot (and what’s not) in the market.

Without further adieu, let’s get into the key movers for the last week.

Football (Soccer): Foden’s post-season surge and Pogba’s swansong ignites sales

It’s been a strong week for several high-profile footballers in the card market. Here’s how the top performers shaped up between 12th and 16th June 2025:

  1. Phil Foden +10.31%
  2. Bukayo Saka +9.83%
  3. Jude Bellingham +9.56%
  4. Lamine Yamal +7.11%
  5. Paul Pogba +6.79%
  6. Christian Pulisic +5.25%
  7. Harry Kane +4.45%
  8. Pedri +3.43%
  9. Neymar Jr. +3.41%
  10. Cristiano Ronaldo +2.86%

Phil Foden’s standout performance in the Club World Cup against Wydad has reignited interest in his cards, as collectors bet on his return to top form. Paul Pogba also finds himself back in the spotlight, with speculation mounting over a potential move to Monaco as he looks to restart his career following an 18-month ban.

Meanwhile, collectors seem to be holding off on listing Messi autos amid ongoing controversy over PSA’s refusal to authenticate his autographs, a factor likely limiting his appearance in the top 10.

The cold side of the market saw these names slip:

  1. Mohamed Salah -49.17%
  2. Eduardo Camavinga -6.80%
  3. Alex Morgan -11.55%
  4. Son Heungmin -8.33%
  5. Jadon Sancho -6.50%

With the off-season in full swing for many players, and no Club World Cup involvement for the likes of Salah or Son, activity around their cards has cooled. Camavinga and Sancho are both expected to move clubs this summer, uncertainty that may be dampening immediate demand for their cards tied to their current teams.

Formula One: Albon leads the charge

F1 cards presented a mixed picture this week, with just a few names gaining ground:

  1. Alexander Albon +20.81%
  2. Charles Leclerc +7.13%
  3. Pierre Gasly +6.53%
  4. Lewis Hamilton +1.20%

Despite a DNF for Albon at the Canadian Grand Prix, his cards saw the strongest growth, showing that hobby trends don’t always mirror on-track results. Meanwhile, Leclerc and Gasly’s cards also attracted fresh interest.

On the downside:

  1. Valtteri Bottas -9.12%
  2. Sebastian Vettel -7.73%
  3. Esteban Ocon -7.23%
  4. Max Verstappen -6.39%
  5. George Russell -4.82%

Interestingly, Russell’s cards cooled despite his pole position last weekend, proof that collectors’ focus can shift quickly, regardless of race-day success.

Marvel: spotlight on Professor X as Chrome drops

The launch of 2025 Topps Chrome Marvel on 16 June has given a boost to Marvel cards, with collectors clearly excited by the release.

Here’s who topped the chart this week:

  1. Professor X +19.97%
  2. Rogue +6.35%
  3. Gwenpool +6.24%
  4. Storm +1.55%
  5. Venom +0.52%

Older sets have contributed to these trends given the new set’s short time on the market so far, but Professor X cards clearly caught the eye of collectors during the release period.

The coldest performers:

  1. Magneto -39.06%
  2. Galactus -28.14%
  3. Spider-Man -20.95%
  4. She-Hulk -17.57%
  5. Thanos -3.82%

While some big names like Spider-Man saw declines, it may simply reflect shifting focus as collectors turn attention to the freshest Chrome cards hitting the hobby.
